Winfrey Announces New Book Club Pick, Launches ‘The Oprah Podcast’

NEW YORKOprah Winfrey has a new book club choice and a new platform to talk about books and other hot topics.

On Tuesday, Winfrey launched “The Oprah Podcast,” a weekly series airing on her. YouTube channel which will feature book club authors and guests ranging from “world newsmakers” to “cultural changemakers.” Upcoming podcasts will feature head writer Ina Garten And Dr. Vivek Murthythe American Surgeon General, among others.

Winfrey launched “The Oprah Podcast” with Irish author Claire Keegan, whose award-winning historical novel “Little things like these” is her latest book club selection. “Small Things Like These”, published in 2021, was adapted into a film with Cillian Murphy which came out this year.

“Knowing that Oprah Winfrey enjoyed reading my book is the most exquisite compliment that will last the rest of my life,” Keegan said in a statement. “To know that she also recommended it to others and that she chose this novel for her book club is a huge honor. May her wonderful book club encourage people to read for years and years to come.

Winfrey’s interview with Keegan and other book club picks will be presented in partnership with Starbucks. The conversations will be filmed at various Starbucks cafes, starting with the one at the Empire State Building, and the books will be accompanied by a Starbucks drink. Winfrey previously worked with Starbucks in the 1990s on a project to raise money for literacy and in 2014 on Teavana Oprah Chai Tea, which raised millions for youth education organizations.

“Connecting with people about what matters to us right now, so that we can all continue to reach our highest and truest potential, is what I am most interested in offering at this time in my life “Winfrey said in a statement. “As one of my greatest pride and joys over the past 30 years has been introducing books to new audiences, I’m thrilled to partner with Starbucks to create this new podcast. It’s the perfect opportunity to bring readers together around the things we both love: books, coffee, and conversation.
