Forget the Galaxy S25. Samsung could soon announce smart glasses

As excited as we are about the Galaxy S25 and his next release (and we are Really excited), something even more exciting could be coming soon from Samsung. The company could reveal its plans for a pair of smart glasses at the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event in early 2025, according to the Korean news site Yonhap News. The augmented reality glasses should look a lot like a standard pair of glasses and weigh just 50 grams, or about a tenth of a pound. The average weight of glasses is between 20 and 40 grams, so they wouldn’t be much heavier.

Don’t expect them to jump in right away. Only the reveal is planned for January, with an estimated public launch during the third quarter of 2025. Additionally, Samsung is looking to hire more people and “strengthen leadership in relevant departments” to ensure a steady development cycle. This would be Samsung’s second new push into wearable devices in recent times. He launched and published the Samsung Galaxy Ring in July 2024, alongside the new Galaxy Watch Ultra smartwatch and its latest Galaxy Watch 7.

This wouldn’t be Samsung’s first attempt at high-tech headphones, either. Back when virtual reality was widespread in the mobile field, Samsung launched the Samsung Gear VRwhich was co-developed with Oculus. This required placing a Samsung Galaxy smartphone into the headset, which then acted as the device’s screen and provided a surprisingly immersive VR experience. However, it was hampered by the constant need for redesign to accommodate newer forms of Galaxy devices and was eventually abandoned.

But Samsung’s partnership with Oculus at the time contributed to its success, and if it wants to release a pair of “normal” smart glasses, it should take a close look at Meta’s partnership with Ray-Ban. This resulted in a comfortable and stylish model Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which benefit from a recognizable design and a network of retailers where people can try them. It’s possible that Samsung will also want to include its own Galaxy AI technology in smart glasses, following the trend started by Meta and brands like Solos where ChatGPT is integrated into the AirGo 3 smart glasses.

Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the existence of smart glasses or the date of its next Unpacked event, but it’s expected to take place in early 2025.
