Cowboys Today: Did Dallas’ stunning playoff loss to the Packers impact this season?

Does dynamism really exist in sport? Many believe it. Others disagree. Maybe it’s play to play or series to series or game to game. But what about from one season to the next?

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seems to think so. He referenced that Tuesday morning when talking about the team that finished strong despite their very slim playoff chances.

“There’s no doubt you can maintain good play from season to season,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “Potentially, we even did it, we postponed a bad play against Green Bay that we had in our last playoff game last year. I think it is naive to think that there is no postponement.

It’s interesting that Jones mentioned a potential postponement of January’s stunning 48-32 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. The No. 2 seed Cowboys were seven-point favorites against the visiting No. 7 seed Packers. Green Bay dominated from the start, taking a 27-0 lead late in the first half and taking a 41-16 lead into the fourth quarter. It’s safe to say, given the way it all played out, that this was the worst loss in Cowboys history.

The team distanced itself from any talk of postponement once the offseason program began last spring, but Jones might be on to something with the poor season that has unfolded for a team that has won 12 games apiece over the past spring. of the last three years. Of course, also a major factor is that Jones and company did very little to improve the roster during the offseason. So while head coach Mike McCarthy deserves the blame, the owner and general manager also deserves a significant share.

Voting for the Pro Bowl

The Cowboys’ disappointing season was reflected Monday when the NFL released the top 10 fan votes by position for this season’s Pro Bowl Games. When business is booming for the Cowboys on the field, they are usually among the league leaders in Pro Bowlers. They had 10 last year and eight the year before. This year? They might only have two or three. That would be their fewest since 2012. Every year since, the Cowboys have had at least five.

According to the vote totals as of December 2, KaVontae Turpin leads the way among return specialists, Brandon Aubrey is second among kickers, Lamb CeeDee is fifth among wide receivers and Zack Martin is the sixth among the guards.

You can see the voting position by position here.

Fan reaction

Just because the Cowboys won on Thanksgiving Day doesn’t mean fans are super excited about the team. I posted on X during last Thursday’s game that I couldn’t remember a season where the home team had been booed as much as this one. And rightly so.

NFL playoff picture after Week 13: Steelers take control of AFC North and Bills win AFC East

A 27-20 victory against the New York Giantsarguably the worst team in the NFL, doesn’t erase much disappointment. Although tickets are sold out, empty seats have been noticed during the last two games, particularly in the club areas behind the Cowboys bench.

Some of the disinterest also seems to show when the gates to AT&T Stadium open. Although there will still be fans of both teams with standing-room-only tickets, this is the fewest number of riders I’ve seen since I started recording these entries seven years ago.

This one is probably the craziest:

Or maybe this one:

What are we talking about

In our latest “One Star Cowboys Podcast” episode, we discuss some of the highlights of Thanksgiving Day at AT&T Stadium, from Dallas’ fifth win to the halftime show to the chicken nugget celebration that n never happened. We also looked ahead to the rest of the season, including playoff chances and top coaching candidates.

Well done

As you may have heard, the sun shining through the gates of AT&T Stadium can be a real problem for players during afternoon games. Well, it also seems to be a distraction even when games aren’t being played at AT&T Stadium. People at Baylor’s McLane Stadium used a photo of the sun streaming through the Cowboys’ home gates to distract Kansas kicker Tabor Allen during their game Saturday. Allen missed this 38-yard field goal attempt on the game’s opening drive. Baylor went on to win 45-17.
