Pep Guardiola sends request to Man City players with era potentially over | Soccer | Sport

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has urged his players to let their performances do the talking, rather than making bold statements on social media.

After Sunday’s heavy defeat at LiverpoolCity players have expressed their determination to bounce back, with Ruben Dias promising fans they will see the team’s “warrior” spirit and Kyle Walker vowing to never give up on winning more trophies.

However, Guardiola stressed the importance of results rather than rhetoric, telling Tuesday’s press conference: “They are just words” and “I know they want it, I have no doubt about it , but we’re not getting results – and you need to get results.”

He added: “They’re not going to come to me and tell me they don’t believe in it anymore. I’d like to help them find a way to be consistent and win games. Otherwise, I wouldn’t decide that I want to stay longer with these players.”

Although he acknowledges the pressure that comes with poor results, Guardiola remains committed to his role, adding: “I accept it and we try to help them. I want to be here and if they want me, then great.”

The Spaniard also expressed concerns that City’s period of dominance could be coming to an end following the worst run of his managerial career.

Guardiola, who has won an incredible 18 trophies in eight years, admitted his recent struggles with a team without a win in their last seven games. Last year, Guardiola led City to a spectacular fourth consecutive streak. Premier League title – his third since taking office, reflecting Manchester United‘s historic Treble in stride.

However, this term City’s form has dropped dramatically, leaving Guardiola to admit it could signal the decline of his illustrious side. Currently in fifth place and lagging behind the leaders Liverpool by 11 points, their quest for another Premier League the crown seems more and more unrealistic.

Faced with questions about whether his side believe their golden period could be on the wane, Guardiola admitted: “I don’t know. I can’t answer that question.”

Ahead of City’s game against Nottingham Forest, he added: “We’re going to try to extend it as much as possible. It’s December, with a lot of games to play. But when it’s over, it’s going to end.

“I want to prove that we are still an incredible football club. Sooner or later it will be the end, but I will try to prolong it as much as possible for the best of my club.”

Recalling his previous triumphs, Guardiola said: “But even when we were celebrating the treble, I said it was going to end, but I would try to keep pushing my players, and they responded incredibly well.

“This season, due to many circumstances, everything has fallen apart. Whether this is the end or not, time will tell.”
