Consumers advised to throw away this pork product sold in Connecticut – NBC Connecticut

The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (FSIS) advises consumers to throw away any pork products illegally imported from Ecuador.

Authorities have issued a public health alert regarding ready-to-eat frozen pork mortadella products imported from a country not authorized to export meat and poultry products to the United States.

The pork product, a one-pound vacuum-sealed package of “Mortadela Especial Bolognia,” was shipped to retailers and distributors in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, of Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

Officials believe people might have this pork product in their freezers. Anyone who purchased it is advised not to eat it.

FSIS said it found bologna mortadella products that did not have the USDA inspection mark during surveillance of a warehouse.

No reactions due to consumption have been reported at this time. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare professional.

Consumers can throw it away or return it to the place of purchase. If you have any questions, you can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854.

To report a problem with meat, poultry or egg products, you can do so online.
