Wednesday starts with frost but ends with rain

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –

Wednesday begins with freezing temperatures in the mid 20s. It is important that you continue to practice cold weather safety, which includes dressing warmly before starting your day. However, a southerly wind returns, which will allow temperatures to rebound nicely to around 60 degrees by Wednesday afternoon.

The southerly wind will dominate before our next rainmaker which arrives Wednesday evening. Spotted showers are possible from 3 p.m. in some areas, then rain coverage will increase as the evening progresses. So, by bedtime Wednesday (10 p.m.), rain will be likely in our area. Consistent light to moderate rain will continue until dawn Thursday until a cold front passes through. Behind it, the rain will gradually diminish after sunrise… leading to a dry midday and afternoon. Rainfall estimates of up to 1 inch are possible.

Thursday morning temperatures will remain well above freezing with temperatures hovering around 50 degrees and high temperatures will remain in the upper 50s. Yet as the rain moves away and the skies clear…another dose of COLD will set in for our Friday morning as temperatures above 20 return. Friday afternoon brings a mix of sunshine and clouds with highs in the 50s.

The weekend brings another gradual warm-up. Saturday morning temperatures will flirt with freezing, but the afternoon will bring temperatures above 50. Sunday starts in the 40s with afternoon highs returning to average in the mid 60s. Sunday also brings another chance for rain…in the evening. It looks like rain will follow us for much of next week, so stay tuned to our First Alert Weather Team for updates.
