Detroit Lions’ brutal plan to stop Caleb Williams revealed – and refs warned before game

Amon Ra St. Brown revealed that Dan Campbell asked the Detroit Lions defense to hit Caleb Williams hard as he went out of bounds during their Thanksgiving game.

The Lions beat the Bears 23-20 last week, but linebacker Jack Campbell sparked controversy with a late hit on quarterback Williams that Chicago players objected to.

Now, speaking on his podcast, St. Brown revealed that Lions coach Campbell had a plan to go after Williams before the game due to his habit of retreating from the sideline.

“At our team meeting, Dan was talking to us and he was showing clips of Caleb going out of bounds, coming back and going out,” the wide receiver said.

“He said ‘no you don’t’ – the beginning was ‘no you don’t’ and then there were just clips of him doing that.

“He says ‘if he does that, we’re going to beat his ass.’ I’ve already warned the referees, the referees know it’ so when it happens in the game, I already know there’s no flag.

The Lions had a pre-planned tactic to hit Caleb Williams hard in their Thanksgiving matchup

“Out of bounds, comes back, Jack (Campbell) hit his ass. We were like “yeah” and everyone at the Bears was like “that’s a flag!” We were like, “bro, he went out and came back, he took it.”

Williams wasn’t happy with the success, telling reporters after the loss: “Yeah, I…that play was great.” Just put it this way. I didn’t really… you know, I didn’t really enjoy the play.

“He just dove straight onto my knee. So I didn’t really understand. Definitely a little frustrated about that one, just because you know, whatever.

“Yeah, the knee is fine. There’s nothing wrong with that. I think I just have a bruise. But the play was great.

The Lions are tied with the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs for the NFL’s best record at 11-1 after the win over Chicago.

They’re back in action Thursday in a blockbuster showdown with the Green Bay Packers in an NFC North divisional rivalry at Ford Field.

The Packers are 9-3 but are third, one win behind the second-place Minnesota Vikings.
