Rewind Everything Hugh Freeze Said About National Signing Day

Auburn football entered the early signing period looking to build on its success in the 2024 recruiting class.

The Tigers’ 2024 class finished 10th in the country and looks to cap off another top 10 finish for 2025 and potentially land in the top five. Auburn has signed 23 players in its 2025 class so far and is expected to add a few more.

Hugh Freeze is scheduled to meet with reporters at 3 p.m. to recap the class and discuss all things early signing period.

Follow below for live updates:

  • Freeze begins the press conference by saying he’s “really excited.” He adds that it is “a good day for us”.
  • Freeze said he thinks he’ll need three top-10 classes when he arrives at Auburn to be “apples to apples with the elite.” Auburn has just signed its second since his arrival.
  • When asked about Vontrell King-Williams during recruiting, he said he never questioned King-Williams’ ability to relate.
  • Freeze says he’s excited about the defensive line class, mentioning Malik Autry’s strength and Antonio Coleman’s quick-twitch ability. Also praised the strength of Jourdin Crawford.
  • Freeze mentions the importance of recruiting players in the state. He mentions that relationships with area high school coaches are a big part of that.
  • Freeze said they wanted to create “genuine, genuine” relationships with the recruits in the class. He adds that with the players they lost, “I guess I didn’t have that real, authentic relationship.”
  • When asked about the transfer portal, Freeze says they’ve had most of their exit meetings and they “kind of know” where the roster is going to be. They said they would meet again after the latest signing announcements.
  • Freeze said Deuce Knight was his “first choice” when he first came to Auburn. He admitted to losing interest when he transferred to Lipscomb Academy, an area where Freeze said he “dropped the ball.” These things resumed when Knight returned to Mississippi.
  • Freeze said he was impressed with all the linebackers they signed. He added that “they’ll have to play” and that Auburn will be young at the position next season.
  • Freeze said signing Donovan Starr was a “battle that went late, late last night and all morning.”
  • Freeze said Auburn signed “two of the best safeties in the country” in Anquon Fegans and Eric Winters.
  • Freeze said, “Anytime you draft a guy that’s one of the best in production nationally, that’s a pretty good sign,” when asked about Alvin Henderson.
  • Freeze said, “It’s impossible to do what we want without having these classes. » He said he still wants to prioritize building through high school recruiting.
  • Freeze said he was thinking of Deuce Knight in the “Malik Willis type world”. Adds that their behaviors and confidence are similar.
  • Freeze said winning their share of the battles in the state is the “No. 1 priority.”
  • When asked about adding a quarterback to the transfer portal, Freeze said they were going to bring in four scholarship quarterbacks every year. He says they’re looking to add one more to go along with Walker White, Hank Brown and Deuce Knight.
