In the Rajya Sabha, members of the Congress and other opposition parties staged a walkout to protest the government’s alleged anti-farmer policies and failure to fulfill the promise of increasing the minimum support price (MSP). for various cultures.

Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected motions to set aside the agenda to discuss the farmers’ issue, saying “farmers’ interests are not served by slogans and (shedding) crocodile tears”.

“You’re just politicizing it.” You don’t want a solution. Kisan (farmers) is your last priority,” he told the opposition members, who resorted to sloganeering.

Initially, he did not allow opposition MPs to raise the issue, but later allowed Congress leader Pramod Tiwari to make a brief mention of it. After Tiwari said the government had failed to fulfill its promise to increase MSP, leading to further agitation by farmers, Dhankhar did not allow others to speak on the issue.

Soon after, the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and the NCP (SP), along with some RJD members, staged a walkout.

Earlier, Dhankhar had dismissed five notices under Rule 267 to discuss farmers’ issues, recent cyclone in Tamil Nadu, allegations of corruption and wrongdoing against Adani Group and violence in Sambhal district, in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress lawmaker Randeep Surjewala, in his notice under Rule 267, said the country’s agrarian distress coupled with rural and agricultural debt is causing an alarming situation in India’s rural hinterland.

“Even public representatives and those occupying its constitutional positions have publicly expressed concerns about rural and agrarian distress. This requires urgent discussion in the House by suspending all other business,” he added in his notice.

Farmers from across western Uttar Pradesh began a march towards Delhi on December 2 after gathering at the Delhi-Noida border for the past few days.

The demand came a day after Dhankhar, at an event in Mumbai, expressed concern over the farmers’ issue and urged the agriculture minister to hold talks with the protesting farmers.

In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla asked lawmakers not to obstruct the main entrance or the Makar Dwar of Parliament after INDIA bloc members staged a protest on the steps of that gate demanding a JPC probe into the Adani question.

“I would like to reiterate that many MPs have made complaints regarding obstructions at the main gate. I want to urge all political parties not to obstruct the door when MPs come to Parliament,” Birla said.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi moved an adjournment motion in the lower house calling for a discussion on the Adani issue.

The notice calls for an urgent discussion on the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) “silence” in the face of serious allegations against the Adani Group, which has been accused of corruption and securities fraud by the US Department of Defense. Justice (DoJ). ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Later, MPs from the INDIA bloc staged a protest at Makar Dwar and raised several slogans and banners illustrating their demand for a JPC investigation into Adani’s indictment.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) meanwhile criticized the Indian bloc, and particularly the Congress, alleging that the opposition’s actions demonstrated clear disregard for the Constitution, highlighting their “fragmented approach” to critical issues.

This happened after, following the Rajya Sabha, members filed 42 notifications under Rule 267, seeking discussion on urgent issues. A Rajya Sabha member noted that each of the 42 notices related to a different issue, allegedly indicating disorganization within the opposition.
