The revelation came for Via after her husband, Carson, and his family orchestrated a surprise reveal by airing the iconic episode featuring Mr. Freeze and his wife, Nora Fries. “I thought it was just a random family tradition,” Via told PEOPLE in an exclusive conversation.

Originally, Via thought Carson was inspired by the name through an Instagram influencer. However, after the secret was revealed, she discovered that the name had a deeper meaning to Carson.

“He said (Nora) added depth to the character of Mr. Freeze and always thought the name was beautiful and wholesome,” she shares.

Although initially surprised, Via eventually embraced the story behind her daughter’s name. She also notes its deeper meaning rooted in her religious beliefs. “Nora means “light of God” and as Christians this also resonated with us. So now we have both spiritual significance and our connection to Batman,” she adds.

The TikTok clip capturing Via’s reaction has garnered millions of views, with many parents speaking out about their own experiences inserting pop culture references into baby names.

“I tried to name my son Bruce,” one user wrote about Batman’s real name, Bruce Wayne. “My wife said no, it’s an old man’s name. Four years later we had our daughter…Harley,” they add, nodding to Batman’s anti-hero, Harley Quinn. Another notes, “My son’s name is Logan,” making reference to Wolverine’s name in the film. Carson’s love for Batman goes beyond naming their daughter Nora Fries. Via revealed that her husband also “accidentally” proposed to her on National Batman Day.

Although it took almost a year to understand the true origin of her daughter’s name, Via ultimately believes that “both parents should like this name, and it should work for an adult as well.” But honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing about how it turned out – it was so sweet and thoughtful.
