Okpebholo to overhaul state television, radio stations — News — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Friday said his administration would reform Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), the state-owned media company, to enable it compete favorably with its counterparts around the world.

He was joined by senior government officials to inspect EBS facilities and road projects at Upper Mission Extension by Aduwawa Junction, Obadan Junction Benin-Auchi Expressway, Upper Ekenwan Road, among others.

At EBS, Okpebholo charged management and staff to be professional in the discharge of their duties, telling them to have the audacity to criticize his administration if it is moving in the wrong direction.

The governor, who made an unscheduled visit to the station, was given a guided tour of the premises by its Director General, Suleiman Aledeh, and other top executives of the organization.

He said his administration would find other alternatives for electricity supply, including opting for solar energy or purchasing generators, as the plant is currently experiencing an epileptic power supply.

“You have exposed your problems to me and today I am here to see for myself the challenges the station is facing. I saw the challenges the station faces: no electricity, poor roads and more. We will see how to resolve the issues.

“The problem here needs to be resolved. It is the property of the Edo State Government and the property of the Edo people. The station must have the same rights as other state government property. He renders services to the Edo people.

“Coming here today, the road is in poor condition and that is not acceptable. I saw for myself. You don’t have a studio. It’s either rebuilding it or renovating it.

“I will call the general manager of the OSSIMO power plant because I know that you pay for the services rendered to you, and if he is not ready, we will look for a reliable source of energy to power the plant .

“We will look at solar power systems and also consider bringing you completely new generators. We want the station to continue operating 24 hours a day.

“As I told you in secret, I now tell you openly to criticize me when I am wrong because I am here to serve the people of Edo,” Okpebholo noted.

For his part, the Director General of EBS, Suleiman Aledeh, who welcomed the governor at the premises of the public media organization, said that the channel faces several challenges that the governor is capable of solving.

He said: “You have given us the mandate to run the station not as a mouthpiece of the government but as a private enterprise competing with every other media organization in the world. »

On the ongoing road projects, Governor Okpebholo said he would continue to monitor them across the state with the aim of putting contractors on their toes to complete these projects before the onset of the rainy season.

The governor noted that his administration is ready to implement practical governance, ensuring that the people of Edo enjoy the dividends of democracy.

He added that with the level and quality of work accomplished so far, his administration will achieve its goal in the next two weeks.

“With continued monitoring, we get results. You can see the volume of work being done here on the Obadan Junction Benin-Auchi highway. I believe that within two weeks, the desired objective will be achieved.

“We believe people will start using this road before Christmas as the contractor is doing his best to ensure the road is completed.

“I am very satisfied with the quality and pace of the work so far,” he noted.
