What happens at the end of the disclaimer?

Throughout DisclaimerCatherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett) is tormented by Stephen Brigstocke (Kevin Kline), a retired professor who self-publishes a book written by his late wife (played by Lesley Manville) blaming the documentarian for the death of their son 20 years later early. As the story unfolds, Stephen leads Catherine’s husband, Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen), and her son, Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee), by making her believe that she was having a torrid affair with her son the day before he drowned save his child.

Why I thought Catherine not forgiving Robert was such a powerful and surprising moment

Until last moments of Disclaimer In the end, I was afraid that Catherine would put the past behind her and forgive her husband for not standing by her side in what was the second most traumatic event of her life. But that doesn’t happen. Instead, Cuarón gives us this powerful moment in which Catherine, calm and reserved (but strong), tells Robert that she can’t forgive him because she feels like he handles it much easier. the idea of someone violating her than the idea of someone. bringing him pleasure, and she can’t help but think that he’s relieved that she was raped instead of cheating on him.

This powerful and surprising moment gave me an even greater sense of appreciation for the series and Catherine’s story, because for the first time in her life, she was honest with herself and those she loved. loves, even if it meant divorcing her husband of over 25 years. years. He had every chance of fixing things, of listening to her, and his lack of trust in his wife was something she could no longer tolerate.

What Cate Blanchett said about Catherine’s decision not to reconcile with Robert

The way in which the Disclaimer the ending messes with your emotions and leads you to believe that Catherine will forgive. Robert is masterful.
