Steve Smith’s difficult time in Tests continued as he was dismissed for just two runs in the first innings of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Jasprit Bumrah sent the former Australian captain to the dressing room.

Bumrah’s delivery angled towards leg stump and Smith tried to look away from it, but failed to put enough bat on it. An edge followed and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant dived to his left to take a fine catch.

Smith shook his head in disgust after the dismissal.

Smith also had an ordinary outing in the first Test of the five-match series. He was dismissed for a duck by Bumrah in the first over of this encounter in Perth. He managed to open his account on the second dig, but failed to score big. He added 17 runs before being bowled out by Mohammed Siraj.

India won the first Test by a resounding margin of 295 runs.

Earlier, Usman Khawaja was the first Australian to return to the dressing room after India were bowled out for 180 in their first innings. It was Bumrah who claimed his wicket in the 11th over. The other opening hitter, Nathan McSweeney, was next to go in the 37th, scoring 39 runs, followed by Smith.

Travis Head scored a brilliant century to give Australia the lead. It was Siraj who dislodged the Australian at 140. Head was ably supported by Marnus Labuschagne who returned to form with a patient half-century.

Australia were bowled out for 337 in their second over and thus took a lead of 157 runs. The hosts are trying to get back on level terms after losing the first game of the series by a huge margin.
