William will be discreet with Donald Trump: the president-elect adores the members of the royal family but they do not agree on many points, according to an expert

PRINCE William will be low-key around Donald Trump, but the president-elect adores members of the royal family, an expert has said.

THE Paris Cathedral has been restored after a fire gutted the roof in 2019 and destroyed much of the site’s heritage.

William is expected to discuss the importance of the “special relationship” between the US and UK with Trump, Kensington Palace has announced.

The 42-year-old will also meet with outgoing first lady Jill Biden, as will Trump.

Royal expert Hugo Vickers told The Sun: “I think the apolitical, gentle diplomacy of the royal family is incredible.

“The late Queen was very good at this sort of thing, leading the way diplomatically.

“William knows that, so he’ll be there to be friendly and, you know, kind of lead the way.

“Then the politicians can step in later and they can do whatever they need to do.”

He added: “This is the wonderful role that the royal family plays so well.”

Hugo said Republican President-elect Trump revered the royal family.

He said: “We know that President Trump was terribly keen to come and meet the late Queen.

“And indeed he came to Windsor twice, and then he came on a state visit.

“Obviously, she was an incredible icon for the whole world. It’s incredible when you think about it.

“Trump is a powerful man as president of the United States. And yet he couldn’t wait to come and meet her.

“He came back, told several people that he was his favorite president.

“I always thought it was actually quite clever of the Queen.

“Because I bet you she made all the presidents feel like they were her favorites, and she had this special talent.”

But Hugo said Prince William will have to remain discreet when speaking to Trump.

The expert said William would follow the late Queen’s example when it comes to dealing with controversial world leaders.

He said: “This time Prince William will come to represent Britain at the reopening of Notre Dame.

“I’m sure Prince William will do very well, because after all he knows Trump is the chosen man.

“He will be leader of the Western world and president of the United States from January onwards, so obviously they will have to work with him.

“The late Queen was once advised not to meet a particular political figure, I don’t know who it was.

“But she said: I don’t see why you advised me against it, because I meet mass murderers every day of my life.

“She invited President Amin to lunch, she met Makarios. She received Mobutu. Ceausescu came on a state visit.

“You know they are sent by the government, or they come for these reasons.

“The monarch, or in this case the Prince of Wales, has to manage this as best he can, and they are very good at it. They do what they are asked.

“And I guess in some ways it’s easier that they’re not there to discuss politics.

“Because Trump will not only be the head of state, but also the head of politics, if I can put it that way

“So in that regard, I suppose it makes it easier for Prince William. He, like the late Queen, will have to suppress all his personal opinions.

“Again, I can tell you that the Queen, sometimes, when faced with a problem, would ask her private secretary, what should the Queen do?

“No? What should I do? But what is the right thing that the Queen should do in these circumstances.

“Then she listened to the advice, and then she followed it.”

The trip to Paris marks William’s first visit since 2017 and will be his first meeting with Trump since his state visit to the UK in 2019.

The president-elect, who is making his first trip abroad since his election victory, arrived at Orly airport, south of Paris, aboard a private plane shortly before 7 a.m., a press release said. source at AFP.

William’s discussion of the U.S.-British alliance comes as Trump touts a more isolationist foreign policy and pledges to impose tariffs on trade.

Trump is also expected to speak with Macron before the ceremony and may also meet Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the presence of dozens of guests, the reopening of Notre-Dame will include the ritualized opening of the cathedral’s massive doors, the revival of its organ and the celebration of the first mass.

Macron visited the fully restored church last week as cameras were allowed in for the first time after the reconstruction project.

The extensive restoration took over 60 months and cost a whopping £600 million.

Work included the total reconstruction of the collapsed roof and spire, while builders unearthed previously unseen treasures from the smoldering ruins.

Some 1,200 oaks from all over France were needed to completely rebuild the framework of the nave and choir.
