LDA to develop Mohaan Road project on Chandigarh grid model

December 07, 2024 at 9:55 p.m. IST

This ambitious project was made possible after the resolution of a long-standing land acquisition dispute with farmers of Kalia Kheda village, allowing the LDA to take possession of the land and initiate development in Sector 6 .

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is set to develop the Mohaan Road project using a grid model inspired by Chandigarh and Panchkula, ensuring modern urban planning and organized infrastructure.

This ambitious project was made possible after the resolution of a long-standing land acquisition dispute with farmers of Kalia Kheda village, allowing the LDA to take possession of the land and initiate development in Sector 6 .

LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar said the project, which will be spread over 785 acres, will be developed on a grid pattern similar to the Chandigarh and Panchkula models. This means that the project will follow the famous urban planning concept designed by French-Swiss architect Le Corbusier, offering integrated residential and commercial spaces within each sector.

“The project will be divided into eight sectors and will include a range of amenities such as sectoral malls, wedding halls, retail zones and an education city spread over 102 acres,” he informed. Additionally, 2,532 residential plots across five categories will be available, as well as larger plots for group housing.

It appears that compensation for farmers’ crops will be paid within a week.

The first phase of development, focused on Sector 6, will include 734 residential plots and seven parks, each covering 4,000 square meters. The first construction works, including marking and filling of the 12 meter wide internal roads, have already started. Once the road network is completed, civil engineering works and landscaping of parks will follow.

A senior LDA official said the project aims to create a modern and well-planned infrastructure to meet the growing demand for residential and commercial spaces in Lucknow.
