Emilie Pérez And The room next door are leading this year’s awards with four nominations each.

Fifteen feature films are competing for the Best European Film award, compared to five last year. This follows a recent rule change that includes films shortlisted for the section’s best documentary and animation categories.

Emilie Pérez is nominated in the best European film category, as well as in the director and screenwriter categories for Jacques Audiard and in the best actress category for Karla Sofía Gascón.

The room next door also competes in the category of best European film as well as best director and screenwriter for Pedro Almodóvar and best actress for Tilda Swinton.

In the meantime, The seed of the sacred fig won three nominations: best film, as well as best director and screenwriter for Mohammed Rasoulof.

The girl with the needle also has three nominations: two in the best actress category for Trine Dyrholm and Vic Carmen Sonne, and one in the screenwriter category for Magnus von Horn and Line Langebek.

Feature films with two nominations each include Coralie Fargeat’s The substance, Maura Delpero Vermiglio, Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel’s Armand and Andrea Arnold Bird.

During the ceremony, Italian actress and filmmaker Isabella Rossellini will receive the European Achievement In World Cinema award, German filmmaker Wim Wenders will receive the European Lifetime Achievement award and Macedonian producer Labina Mitovska will receive the Eurimages International Co-Production award.

Fernando Tiberini is hosting the awards tonight. The Swiss-born host and voice-over actor is said to be fluent in English, German, Swiss German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.

The EFA Craft Awards were announced last month: The body horror of Coralie Fargeat The bottom and Magnus von Horn’s crime drama The girl with the needle were among the winners with two craft awards each.
