Auburn lands in top 4 for Mountain West linebacker transfer

Auburn has been listed as a transfer candidate for former Fresno State linebacker Phoenix Jackson, a top linebacker expected to hit the portal when it officially opens on Dec. 9.

Jackson, a junior from Modesto, Calif., will choose between the Tigers, SMU, Indiana and Nebraska.

This would be a massive addition if Hugh Freeze could get a commitment from Jackson. The junior, as you can see above, was excellent last season for the Bulldogs, totaling 49 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 interceptions. Jackson also recorded 4 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble. Ultimately, one of his interceptions was returned for a touchdown against Hawaii in early November.

A few days ago, Jackson scheduled an official visit to Auburn for December 13-14. It’s worth noting, however, that Jackson also has scheduled visits to Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State, although neither of them reached his top 4 on Saturday.

Auburn will need to replace the production of Austin Keys, Eugene Asante and Dorian Mausi, so Jackson would certainly have a spot on the field if he were to be traded to The Plains. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.
