Bleach kills off a major character in the bloodiest episode of the Thousand Year War

Bleach’s Bloody Thousand Year War has lived up to his name more times than we can countas the return of Soul Society anime did not shy away from shedding a lot of blood in its many battles. In the first anime adaptation of the shonen supernatural series, Ichigo Kurosaki still had a decent amount of violence, but there were often times where he retreated from the same anger seen in the manga. The latest revival series doesn’t seem to have this problem, as the latest episode proves with the bloody war killing off a major character who has been a part of the anime for a while.

Warning. If you haven’t yet watched the latest episode of Bleach: The Bloody Thousand Year War, “Baby, Hold Your Hand 2 (Never Ending My Dream)be warned we’re going to delve into spoiler territory. One of the strangest battles of the Blood War so far was that of Shinigami scientist Mayuri fighting against the “Left Hand of the Soul King” known as Pernida Parnkgjas. Soul Society’s resident mad scientist thought he had won the day with his disturbing Bankai.swallowing the left hand in a macabre display. However, thanks to Pernida’s status as a Quincy, he returned to the battlefield and thus dealt a heavy blow to Mayuri.

Nemuri did not succeed

While Mayuri was at the forefront in the fight against the Quincy appendage, he is saved thanks to the intervention of Nemuri Number 7. The artificial soul that gave life has long been one of the scientist’s most trusted companions crazy and she shows how bad she is in the face of the Bloody War. Unfortunately, even when surpassing his limits, Nemuri was unable to destroy Pernidas and suffered a gruesome demise.

While Mayuri’s right arm managed to destroy Pernidas’ bodythe left hand immediately regenerated and infected Nemuri in a split second. Before even hitting the ground from the air, Number 7 becomes infected with the nerves in his left hand and his entire body explodes in one of the bloodiest moments of the Blood War so far. What makes this death even harder is that the final episode explores Nemuri’s past and how this artificial soul came to be.

Did Nemuri really die?

There is some hope for Bleach fans when it comes to Nemuri’s death, as Mayuri is able to save his brain from being eaten by Pernidas. Thanks to the biological structure of Nemuri’s body, the left hand eating his body brought about his own demise as the DNA overloaded his system and caused him to explode in the same manner as his victim. Given the wonders we’ve seen Mayuri perform in the past, it’s possible that he brings his assistant back from the grave or that we see a Nemuri Number 8 arrive in his place.

There are only a few episodes left in this final course of the Bloody War but Bleach fans still have big installments coming. A fourth installment has already been confirmed to complete the Shinigami’s fight against the Quincy, but no one knows when we will see the anime’s conclusion. Most likely, Bleach: Bloody Thousand Year War will end in 2025, concluding the great return of Soul Society.
