Food Lion Feeds awards grant to Rowan Helping Ministries

Published at 00:00 on Sunday December 8, 2024

Rowan Helping Ministries received $3,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed hungry neighbors.

The Feeding Our Neighbors grant supports community food partners in combating food insecurity and promoting healthier lifestyles through nutrition education initiatives.

These funds will support two Rowan Helping Ministries programs that address hunger and food insecurity in the Rowan County community.

The first, Jeannie’s Kitchen, is a community kitchen that serves three meals a day to Rowan Helping Ministries’ shelter guests and a free midday meal to hungry community members. Last year, Jeannie’s Kitchen served 80,730 meals to the community.

The second program, Food Lion Feeds Food Pantry, provides community members in need with additional groceries. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the organization’s food pantries distributed 1,107,700 pounds of food to 4,235 households. Funding from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation will allow Rowan Helping Ministries to purchase nutritious foods for these programs to supplement the in-kind donations they receive from community groups and other sources.
