Marty Lawler had 11 points, seven assists and two steals to earn Most Valuable Player honors and help Carbondale Area win its sixth straight Jerry Finan Memorial Tournament title with a 70-52 win over Bishop Hannan in final. Keith Toolan led the Chargers with 19 points and Joe Borosky added 14. Both were named to the all-tournament team. … Bob Tugend scored a career-high 39 points to lead North Pocono to a 61-55 non-league boys basketball victory over East Stroudsburg. …The Philadelphia Phillies announced that Mike Quade will return as manager of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons for the 1995 International League season. … Jen Nish scored 26 points – including 19 in the first half – to earn Most Valuable Player honors and lead the University of Scranton women’s basketball team to a 59-43 victory over Allentown College during the championship game of the 16th Poinsettia Classic at the John Long Center.

Alex Walsh’s second 3-pointer sparked a 12-0 run that helped Scranton pull away and upset Abington Heights, 51-35. Stephon Draper led the Knights with 18 points. … North Pocono’s Emily Lynch scored 17 points — including the 1,000th of her career — and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 55-21 victory over Delaware Valley in Lackawanna League Division O girls basketball. Lynch got his milestone on a jump shot with 3:18 left in the first quarter. …Katy Rotell won the 50 free and 100 free and also swam on two victorious relay teams as the Valley View girls swim team beat Berwick for the first time in school history, 105- 77. … Kris Beech and Michel Ouellet each scored two goals and Matt Murley had three assists to lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins past the Albany River Rats, 7-1, at Wachovia Arena.

Honesdale’s Katie Miller scored 18 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to help the Honesdale girls basketball team defeat Blue Ridge, 69-32, in a non-league game. … Scranton won five of 14 weight classes and captured the team title at the Lackawanna League wrestling championships. Jacob Burgette (120), Rui Evanitsky (132), Aidan McNally (138), Andrew Burgette (160) and Niyaz Bakradze (170) won the titles for the Knights. Bakradze also earned his 100th career victory. … Jason Kenny scored 29 points and tournament MVP Mo Blackwell added 15 points to help Mid Valley beat Lakeland, 60-38, in the championship game of the Cal King men’s basketball tournament. … Dunmore lost to South Fayette, 28-16, in the PIAA Class AA football championship game at Hersheypark Stadium. Hunter Hayes’ 95-yard touchdown run in the third quarter helped rally South Fayette. Hayes finished with 263 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.
