TAKE MORE TIME TO GET A JOB

The problem is that adding more interviews and tests exhausts candidates and interviewers and takes away everyone’s time from the real work. And what’s even more infuriating is that they might not even be productive.

In 2016, Google said that four interviews were enough to predict whether someone should be hired. According to the company, anything beyond that had diminishing returns.

But this rule does not take into account the barrier gestures put in place before the interviews. Young job seekers sometimes complain that their parents still believe it’s possible to put on a smart suit and hand in a resume at the front desk when looking for work.

In reality, the standard process already includes an online application, CV screening and online assessment before on-site meetings. Applicant tracking software like Oracle’s Taleo is used to screen candidates before they have a chance to interact with anyone at a company. Unsuccessful applicants may be ghosted.

As the process grows, so does the time it takes to get a job. A study by American human resources advisor Josh Bersin estimates the average at 45 days.

In fields like technology, this can be much longer. Software engineer Rohit Verma wrote a blog about his experience landing positions at major US tech companies. At Meta, he writes that it took about four months from referral to job offer.
