The freezer temperature is very important to keep this appliance working efficiently and keeping your food safe. There’s nothing worse than opening a freezer to packaged ice or partially melted frozen vegetables, but how cold should a freezer be?

The rule of thumb when it comes to freezer temperature is to keep it around -18 degrees. The more you increase, the more you regularly need defrost your freezer and higher temperature increases the risk of food spoilage.

“The ideal temperature for a freezer is -18°C to prevent the growth of bacteria and keep food fresh for longer. Some foods stored in the freezer have specific temperature requirements, so it’s always best to check the label before storing them. A full freezer also keeps food cooled better and stays fresh longer, but an overcrowded freezer can make it difficult for cooled air to circulate, making it less efficient for the user,” Matthew Glynn, Go Product Marketing Manager -To-Market at Hisense UK.
