In a very bizarre incident, train operations were disrupted at Samastipur Junction railway station in Bihar after a fight broke out between two monkeys over a banana, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon near platform number 4, where the monkeys were fighting over fruits, news agency PTI reported.

In the midst of the ongoing fight, one of the monkeys threw an object at the other which came into contact with an overhead wire and caused a short circuit. The wire then broke and fell on the bogie of a train, interrupting railway operations.

“In the middle of the fight, suddenly one of them threw an object at the other. The object struck the overhead wire and the power line tripped. The incident caused disruption in train services for some time,” Sharswati Chandra, public relations officer of East Central Railway, told the news agency.

The sudden power outage led to a temporary shutdown of trains, affecting several passengers who were waiting for their scheduled departure. Station officials said no passengers were injured in the incident and the disruption was contained within a short period of time.

The official said the station’s electrical department has started repairing the wiring and services have resumed. “The problem was immediately rectified by railway staff and train service was resumed,” he added.

The monkeys, however, have disappeared from the region. This is the latest incident in a series of incidents that point to the monkey menace prevailing at Samastipur railway station. Earlier, passengers were injured by monkeys, which were later captured by the forest department.
