Toronto Blue Jays May Have Highest Offer for Juan Soto as Prices Skyrocket

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the New York Yankees and New York Mets have both increased their contract offers for superstar free agent Juan Soto to $700 million. Heyman says both teams are in the $710 million to $730 million zone.

That said, he adds that the Toronto Blue Jays are not out of the running and in fact might have the highest offer at this point.

It is not yet known that any of Soto’s three other suitors – Red Sox, Blue Jays and Dodgers – are in any way excluded from this offer, and it is possible that one of those teams could even be above the New York teams and wins the 26. 12-year-old superstar hitter. Soto won’t necessarily accept the highest bidder, and he reportedly weighed a whopping five offers on Saturday night. At least the four biggest deals seem pretty close.

Whether or not the Jays have the highest offer, it’s surreal to see how high these numbers are. Soto is on pace to break the major league record set by Shohei Ohtani ($700 million) for total contract value, and he is also expected to break Ohtani’s record for highest amount in terms of current value. Since part of the contract will likely be postponed, Soto’s deal could also approach $500 million.

The Jays had hoped all offseason to pair Soto with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the middle of the order. The winter meetings start Monday and we could have a decision on Soto by then.

THE Blue Jays finished last in the American League East with a 74-88 record last season.
