Michelle Buteau Jokes About Her Husband’s Reaction to Following Lenny Kravitz (Exclusive)

In PEOPLE’s exclusive debut of the trailer for Buteau’s new Netflix comedy special, Michelle Buteau: A Spirit Full of Buteau at Radio City Music Hallthe 47-year-old comedian shares a story about her husband Gijs van der Mostthe reaction of when Lenny Kravitz followed her on social media.

“My husband threw me a party because we found out Lenny Kravitz followed me on Instagram,” she jokes in the clip.

“But then Lenny Kravitz kept liking my posts, and my husband was like, ‘Should I be worried about Lenny Kravitz?'” she continued, drawing laughter from the crowd. “I said, ‘Yes, that’s true.’”

Eagle-eyed social media users may notice that the 60-year-old rocker still follows Buteau on Instagram.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Buteau teases some elements about motherhood. She and van der Most share a 5-year-old child the twins, Hazel and Otis.

“What I didn’t realize with the twins is that everyone wants to talk to you. I didn’t know that,” she told the audience. “People come up to me with, like, action and purpose, and say, ‘Are they twins?'”

“I’m like, ‘Are you a pediatrician?’” Girls » adds the star, for even more laughs.

Buteau and van der Most, a photographer, married in 2010 and welcomed their children via surrogate in January 2019. The actress has previously spoken candidly about her journey to motherhood, tell PEOPLE in September 2020 that van der Most was the first person to ask her to consider surrogacy.

“My husband told me, ‘You know, I want you back. You’re so unhappy and physically broken,'” she shared. “I didn’t know anyone who had done it. I didn’t have anyone to talk to about it. I just did some research. I found an agency through my doctor where these women are just walking angels on Earth who help someone make their dreams come true, the best thing there is.

“Michelle Buteau: A Buteau-ful Mind” premieres December 31.

A mind full of goaleau It’s also cause for celebration: Buteau’s comedy special marks the first time a female lead comic has recorded a special at Radio City Music Hall.

In the trailer, she acknowledges this milestone by telling the crowd, “I may be the first woman to do a special on this stage, but I better not be the last!”

In a final passage, she talks about comedy as her dream career.

“I want to make millions and millions of dollars to make people feel safe, seen, heard and entertained,” she finishes to applause. “That’s my goal. Before, my goal was to find my belly button when I sat down, but that’s not realistic.”

A mind full of goaleau is Buteau’s second Netflix comedy special. His last special, Michelle Buteau: Welcome to Buteaupia, arrived in 2020 and won a Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Special. The new special, produced by Push It Productions, is directed by Page Hurwitz and Sandra Restrepo, with Buteau, Hurwitz and Wanda Sykes serving as executive producers.
