Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk undercard forced into late change as boxer steps in on two weeks’ notice

Israil Madrimov has been replaced on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Madrimov was scheduled to face Sergiy Bohachuk in a super welterweight clash on the Fury vs. Usyk project, his first fight since lose his WBA world title to Terence Crawford in August.

But he was ruled out of the fight by doctors after falling ill with acute bronchitis.

Incredibly, the Uzbek star will now be replaced by British boxer Ishmael Davis, who will now fight Bohachuk on the Usyk vs Fury 2 project. December 21.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh confirmed the news on social media.

He tweeted: “Doctors confirmed this evening that Israil Madrimov is suffering from acute bronchitis and must withdraw from the December 21 fight against Bohachuk.

“British fighter Ishmael Davis will replace Madrimov, who will now rest and recover for his scheduled February 22 fight against Vergil Ortiz.”

The Brit has won 13 of his 14 professional fights and is no stranger to stepping in at short notice.

Davis replaced Liam Smith on the sub-map Antoine Joshuait is the defeat of Daniel Dubois in October, stepping in to face Josh Kelly.

He was eventually put forward, succumbing to a majority decision defeat, but his stocks rose as he gave a good account of himself with so little preparation.

It will be a tough step against the experienced Bohachuk who has a professional record of 24-2 and was once interim champion in the weight class.

THE huge map will also see some big names clash including Moses Itauma who will face Demsey McKean in a heavyweight battle.

British fan favorites Johnny Fisher and Dave Allen will also meet at a intriguing heavyweight battle.

As for the main event, it will be a highly anticipated sequel between Fury and Usyk, with the former looking for revenge following his points defeat in their undisputed clash in May.

Both men are in the final stages of their preparations and both look in fantastic shape in their own respective training camps.

Fury was able to take part in the Malta camp this time around, after being unable to do so in his first test against Usyk.

He has shared rounds with heavyweights like Kevin Lerena, undercard fighter Itauma and many others.

But the old rival Derek Chisora believes that will not be enough to help him topple Usyk.

He said: “Do I believe Tyson can beat Oleksandr? I’m watching the way he’s going in training camp.

“Personally, I don’t believe that with the training partners he has now, they are pushing him to become a threat.

“They are impressed with Tyson. They will do well in the fights, those are the things I see.

“What I see is that Oleksandr does things completely differently. I think Oleksandr is much more like starting fast and finishing fast.

“He knows he can hurt him now, so he’s going to come and try to hurt him. He keeps saying he won’t leave him alone.

“I would love for Tyson to win, but right now those odds don’t look great.”

The highly anticipated rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will be live on talkSPORT on December 21.

The first fight saw the Ukrainian win by split decision and become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. He will now put his WBA, WBO and WBC belts on the line in Riyadh.
