Tom Holland’s directorial debut is now available on BBC iPlayer

Tom Holland is one of the biggest stars in the world today, but it’s easy to forget that he wasn’t always Spiderman.

After impressing as Billy Elliot on stage, Holland moved into acting and began with more dramatic films. Technically, his first film was an English dub role for Arrietty like Shō, but the first time we saw him in a movie was The Impossible.

The disaster film is based on one family’s experience during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor play Maria and Henry Bennett, while Holland plays Lucas, one of their three sons.

If you haven’t seen it yet, The Impossible is now available on BBC iPlayer for the next 29 days, following its broadcast last night (December 8) on BBC One.

The Impossible is also available now on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.

In 2013, Holland was on the awards circuit for The Impossible when asked what would be his ideal future roles.

“There are so many roles played every year that it’s impossible to say exactly what you want to do, but something that has a little action or a little comedy; maybe something less serious than The Impossible. Maybe something a little wacky,” he said.

“What kind of superhero would I like to play? Maybe Spider-Man in 10 years. Maybe. The reboot of the reboot.”

What a prediction that turned out to be.
