OpenAI announced the release of Soraits AI tool designed to help users create and enhance videos using AI. The company said today that the release of Sora is its “holiday gift,” available at sora.com.

With Sora, users can generate videos from text, animate images, and remix or blend existing videos. The website interface allows for incentives, creative control, and sharing within a community. OpenAI previewed Sora in February.

Sora Turbo, a faster version of the model previewed earlier this year, is now available as a standalone product for Plus and Pro users.

The AI video tool will allow users to create up to 1080p resolution clips of up to 20 seconds in length, in formats such as widescreen, vertical or square formats. Prepare for the web to be flooded with realistic videos that you won’t be able to tell are from AI. It’s time to doubt what you see online even more.

Sora is free with paid Plus accounts. You can create up to 50 videos at 480p resolution or lower videos at 720p each month.

The Pro plan includes 10x more usage, higher resolutions and longer durations, but of course you’ll have to pay for that. OpenAI claims to be working on “pricing tailored to different types of users,” which will be available in early 2025.

At this time, heavy traffic has temporarily disabled listings in Sora. Users who attempt to access the service see a message stating that OpenAI is working to restore registrations soon.
