Munawar Faruqui on struggles after son’s Kawasaki diagnosis: had only Rs 700

Comedian Munawar Faruqui recently shared the story of his 1.5-year-old son’s health issues. He revealed that his son was diagnosed with the rare Kawasaki disease at such a young age and spoke about the challenges he faced in raising funds for his child’s treatment.

During a podcast with Janice Sequeira, Munawar explained how his son Mikael was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, a rare inflammatory disease affecting the blood vessels, at just one and a half years old. This came at a time when the Bigg Boss 17 winner was facing financial difficulties with each life-saving injection costing Rs 25,000.

Reflecting on the same, Munawar said, “This situation scares me. My son was a year and a half then. He fell ill and for 2-3 days his condition did not improve. After taking him to the hospital, we discovered that he was suffering from Kawasaki disease. Three injections were required, each costing Rs 25,000. I needed Rs 75,000 but I only had Rs 700 to 800 in my wallet.

Kawasaki disease is a rare but serious illness that mainly affects children under the age of five. It causes inflammation in the walls of medium-sized arteries throughout the body, including the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. Although the exact cause is unknown, it is believed to result from an overactive immune response triggered by infection in genetically predisposed individuals. Although Kawasaki disease is not contagious, urgent treatment is needed to prevent serious complications.
