Asa Ren and Ministry of Health continue work on biological sample collection – Society

The linico-genomic data management company PT Asa Ren Global Nusantara continued work on December 2 on a 5-year general population sample collection program which aims to collect biological samples, Phenotypic data and disease-specific recordings from a large population sample.

The activity is a collaborative effort that will improve Indonesia’s data registry and health record, facilitating large-scale genomic data analysis and is carried out in cooperation with the National Center for Biomedical and Genomic Health (BB Binomika), a management unit (UPT) under the Ministry of Health.

“We hope that this collaboration can improve Indonesia’s healthcare system through the use of genomic data,” Asa Ren founder and CEO Aloysius Liang said in a statement on Monday.

“Asa Ren has actively supported the development of Indonesia’s healthcare sector since 2021, and we believe in the potential of clinico-genomic datasets as a basis for supporting preventive research and providing concrete solutions to advance precision medicine.

On November 21, Asa Ren signed a collaboration agreement with the center’s National Institute of Biomedical Genome Sciences (BGSi) to develop a structured dataset system under the Biomedical Genome Science Initiative for precision medicines.

BGSi is one of the center’s four departments and six laboratories.

The dataset will be used as a reference for the general population recruitment program when collecting phenotypic data, including demographic, clinical and environmental variables, in order to advance precision medicine and improve the application of whole genome sequencing (WGS) technology.

The agreement was signed by Aloysius and acting director of BGSi, Indri Rooslamiati, as a significant improvement on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in September 2023.

Asa Ren is collaborating with BB Binomika to transfer knowledge and expertise while jointly conducting a comparative study to determine phenotypic variables for the dataset registry.

Standardized variables will be essential to create comprehensive baseline data sets representing the Indonesian population through a national sample recruitment program.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2025.

“We are proud to partner with BB Binomika to create the standardized data variable system that will be implemented for the national genomics program, supporting the advancement of the genomics program in Indonesia,” Aloysius said in a statement from November 21.

“Through our participation, we aim to lay the foundation for clinical and genomic data in the country. This collaboration will enable the development of innovative solutions for preventive healthcare and improve the overall health and well-being of the Indonesian population, taking a major step forward for population genomics.
