Man accused of murder in Acton

A man will appear in court charged with the murder of Nash Clyne, 33, in Acton.

Benjamin Matthews – 50 (16.08.74) from Acton will appear in custody at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 10, charged with murder.

Matthews was arrested on Monday, December 9.

An investigation was launched after police were called to Birkbeck Road in Acton shortly after 4am following reports of a fight and possible gunshots being heard. Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics.

He was found there, seriously injured. Despite all the efforts of emergency services, he died shortly afterwards. Although formal identification has not yet taken place, officers are confident he is Nash Clyne, 33, from Grenada.

Nash’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. A special autopsy will take place in the coming days to determine the cause of his death.

At least three other people are believed to have been injured in the incident. None of these injuries are life-threatening, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The nature and cause of these injuries, including the identification of weapons that may have been used, will be part of the investigation into the incident.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday (December 9) on suspicion of GBH in connection with the wider disturbances which took place and remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie of the Met’s Special Crime Command is leading the investigation and said: “A team of experienced detectives are working around the clock to establish why Nash was murdered and bring those responsible to justice.

“We are urging anyone who was in the area or knows anything about what happened to come forward. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who visited Front Line Cuts Hair Salon or Paradise Cuts Hair Salon, both in Acton High Street, between 10pm on Saturday and 4.30am on Sunday.

“What you know, as insignificant as it may seem today, could hold the key to this investigation.”

The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as officers continue their extensive investigation. While some cordons have now been lifted, others will remain in place for the time being to give us the best chance of obtaining important evidence.

A dedicated page has been posted online where information can be provided. It is also the best way to share images or videos with the investigation team.

Information about the incident can also be given to police by calling 101 and providing reference 1132/08DEC, or by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
