NHL Best Bets Today (Expect a Defensive Battle in New Jersey)

We suffered some heavy losses Monday evening. The Sabers squandered a two-goal third-period lead against the Red Wings and ultimately lost in overtime while the Ducks and Canadiens were 2-2 five minutes into the second period and didn’t score a game. other goal, having failed to achieve the goal. ON.

All we can do is try to bounce back on Tuesday night, which is a loaded slate with most teams in action across the league. I have three locked bets that I’m ready to break. Let’s dive into it.

Maple Leafs vs. Devils Prediction

As I previously wrote in Top Shelf Picks, the Maple Leafs have become a great defensive team this season while also benefiting from some of the best goalies in the league in Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll. As a result, they allow the fifth fewest goals per 60 minutes, at 2.61.

The Devils are also becoming a great UNDER team as of late. They rank fourth in the NHL in 5-on-5 expected goals per 60 minutes at 2.02. Offensively, they have struggled to put the puck in the net lately, scoring on just 9.84% of their shots on goal.

There are enough from both teams that I like the UNDER 6.5 at -120 odds.

Choice: UNDER 6.5 (-120)

Kings vs. Islanders Prediction

The Kings and Islanders might just be the best defensive teams in the NHL right now and especially lately. Over each team’s last 10 games, the Kings and Islanders rank second and third in expected goals at 5-on-5.

If you throw the numbers out the window, these two teams rank third and fifth in the NHL in goals allowed at 5-on-5 per 60 minutes. Overall, when looking at special teams, they allow a total of 5.5 goals per 60 minutes, which is exactly the total.

I’ve banked a lot of UNDERs on both of these teams this season, so now that they’re facing each other, I’ll place the same bet.

Choice: UNDER 5.5 (-115)

Flame Prediction Against Predators

The Nashville Predators just can’t buy a goal, which makes me cautious to rate them as heavy favorites like they are today. They are dead last in the NHL in shooting percentage, scoring on just 7.39% of their shots on goal, the worst mark in the league at 1.1%. As a result, they only score 2.16 goals per 60 minutes. Things have gotten even worse in recent weeks, posting a 7.17% shooting percentage and scoring 1.99 goals per 60 minutes.

I’ll take my chances on the Flames as underdogs against the spiraling Predators.

Choice: Flames +130
