Fresh today with first frost possible for the Brazos Valley

CENTRAL TEXAS — Highs will only climb into the mid 50s this afternoon with widespread freezing expected overnight. With the wind it will feel like it’s in the 40s all day today.

THE BREAKDOWN:

  • Cool conditions are expected today with high temperatures in the 50s and feeling like 40 degrees all day.
  • Strong winds persist today, but ease overnight.
  • A widespread freeze expected overnight will be the first in the Brazos Valley this season.

Good morning! We had a cold front overnight. The cold air has hung around a bit, so we’re starting out very similar to yesterday morning. Despite this, expect it to be cool today as cold air combines with northerly winds. Ambient temperatures will remain in the 40s all day, even with sunny skies. Make sure you dress for it!
Overnight, as winds ease, temperatures will drop to near freezing overnight. For the Brazos Valley, this will be the first widespread frost of the season. It won’t be a gel to break pipes, but bring in pets and plants and wrap outside faucets if you can.

We will then begin a warm-up through the weekend with highs approaching the 70s. A few small rain chances could work Friday, but the best rain chances will be east of I-35. Our next best chance for rain is expected to arrive Monday as another cold front attempts to move in. The models really struggled with the timing next week, but Monday looks to bring the best chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Expect the forecast to change a bit for next week, we’ll keep you posted.

Have a great Tuesday!
