Caldey Island: Sexual abuse victim claims monk stole her childhood

Rebecca is one of 16 survivors who have shared their experiences of child sexual abuse by a monk who lived on Caldey Island, off the coast of Pembrokeshire.

Between the late 1960s and early 1990s, Father Thaddeus Kotik abused children who lived and visited the island, according to a safeguarding study.

Kotik, who groomed Rebecca and other children by promising them candy, chocolate and other gifts, died in 1992 without being questioned, charged or convicted.

Caldey Abbey commissioned the report and its new abbot apologized for the pain and suffering caused.
