Cong demands removal of BJP leader Nishikant Dubey’s ‘defamatory remarks’ against Rahul Gandhi from House proceedings – India News

Deputy Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi has urged Speaker Om Birla to look into and strike out what the party calls “defamatory remarks” made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey against senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Gogoi said that Congress is ready to participate in the legislative work of the winter session of Parliament following the President’s decision.

In a letter dated December 10, Gogoi reiterated his concerns over comments made during Zero Hour on December 5, which he described as defamatory and unparliamentary. “I implore you to announce your decision to look into our complaint and remove all defamatory and unparliamentary remarks from the record,” Gogoi wrote.

The Congress also raised questions about the government’s willingness to allow both houses of Parliament to function. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh released Gogoi’s letter on X, asserting the party’s commitment to ensuring smooth conduct of parliamentary proceedings.

Dubey’s remarks, made during a discussion in the Lok Sabha, related Rahul Gandhi to a US-based billionaire investor and investigative platform, alleging a conspiracy to derail Indiaprogress under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These comments sparked an outcry in the House, leading to an adjournment of proceedings.

Speaking in Parliament, Gogoi hit back, accusing Dubey of being part of the “Adani sleeper cells” activated to defame those who speak out against corruption allegations involving the conglomerate. The Congress alleged that “Adani agents” were being used to discredit opposition leaders critical of the group.

Dubey alleged that the Congress was trying to derail Parliament based on information from foreign publications, some of which were published on the eve of Parliament sessions. He suggested the reports were part of an orchestrated effort involving Congress and international organizations.
