Eagles coach acknowledges ‘moments we weren’t good enough’ in Passing Gam

PHILADELPHIA — Perceived personal issues that may or may not exist distract from Philadelphia’s real problem, a suddenly impotent passing game that has mustered 226 raw yards over the past two weeks.

The camouflage of interpersonal communication, along with a nine-game winning streak, a historic running game and the NFL’s No. 1 defense somehow convinced a sleeping public in the Delaware Valley to say “So what?” in connection with a passing attack in the same conversation with the New Englands, the New York Giants and the Tennessees of the world.

In theory, having a superstar running back, perhaps the best offensive line in the game, and a top-tier receiving tandem should be enough to expect more. However, the sum has not been greater or even equal to its parts.

When head coach Nick Sirianni stood on the field Wednesday before practice, he again acknowledged the obvious.

“Do we all have things to improve? » » Sirianni asked rhetorically. “In the passing game, yeah, I think it’s obvious. I think that’s what we were talking about. We all have things we need to improve on, coaches (and) players. This is why it is the greatest team sport there is. It takes everyone. Everyone needs to be together. Every person for success to happen.

The exception on offense, however, has been quarterback Jalen Hurts, whose tendency to falter unless things go off schedule seems to get worse as the season progresses.

“There’s so much talk because I know, I have to prepare to talk to you and hear all the talk,” Sirianni said of Hurts. “…At the end of the day, what doesn’t happen I’ve said enough about Jalen Hurts, what is he? 45-19 over the last four years.

That said, Sirianni said things were sometimes missing in the passing game.

“It’s not one person’s job and so we’re all working to get better and we’ve had times where we were good. We had times when we didn’t need it. We had times where we weren’t good enough,” Sirianni said. “All these things are true.”

So far, the times when we were good and didn’t need the passing game have overwhelmed the times that weren’t good enough, to the tune of an 11-2 start.

Unfortunately, the moments that weren’t good enough highlighted a competitor’s potential Achilles heel and revealed a stress point for the top competition to come.
