Former government candidate of Bayelsa LP, party of the Dump party

Former Labor Party (LP) candidate for the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, Engr. Udengs Eradiri and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (ret) announced their resignation from the party.

LEADERSHIP learned that most of the party’s local government chairmen in the state have also joined Eradiri and Nathus in quitting the party.

Eradiri conveyed his resignation through a letter dated December 8, 2024 addressed to the party chairman in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

In the letter titled: “Letter of Withdrawal as a Member of the Labor Party”, Eradiri said he had made the decision to allow him to continue his political career on a platform ready and prepared to provide the type of leadership that Bayelsa deserved.

The former governorship candidate appreciated party members for believing in his vision of a better Bayelsa and giving him the opportunity to be their governorship candidate.

“But unfortunately, we could not overcome the intrigues and challenges implanted in the party leadership,” he said.

He noted that it was a great time to work together politically and travel to the nooks and crannies of the state in the quest for leadership, adding that his decision was supported by his loyalists.

Eradiri further revealed that he was carrying out serious consultations to decide on the next political platform that would enable him to deliver service to the people.

“We are seriously consulting and engaging all stakeholders to know the next political party to join. Our next party of interest will be such that it will enable us to serve the people and move Bayelsa forward,” he said.

On his part, Nathus, in his resignation letter, said the move was prompted by his decision to seek a platform committed to leadership that would propel Bayelsa to a brighter and more prosperous future.

“I am deeply grateful for the support and camaraderie of party members who shared our vision of a prosperous Bayelsa and graciously offered me the opportunity to serve as a deputy governorship candidate. The trip was enriched with invaluable experiences and insights,” he said.

The former LP running mate said he was honored to work with dedicated colleagues and engage deeply with communities in pursuit of transformative governance.
