‘Very good sign’ – Ruben Amorim explains why Manchester United duo’s post-match row is ‘perfect’

Ruben Amorim thinks Rasmus Hojlund’s outburst after the match against Amad Diallo is a “very, very good sign” that his players care about.

Hojlund was captured having a heated debate with Diallo after the full-time whistle as the former’s double helped Manchester United to a 2-1 victory against the Czech team Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

The Dane could and perhaps should I had a third in stoppage time of the second half.

With Plzen committing numbers in search of a late equalizer, United had several chances to put the result beyond doubt via counter-attacks.

One of these quick attacks gave Diallo the chance to place the ball from the right into the path of Hojlund, who had squeezed in front of his marker.

Had Diallo done so, Hojlund would have been in a good position to score his third of the night.

Hojlund’s frustration with Diallo for not playing the ball and giving him a chance to record a hat-trick was evident, as the two men had words after the final whistle.

Some fans could have easily seen the incident as a sign of discord between the players.

But the boss of the Red Devils Amorim loved what he saw.

“For me it’s perfect,” Amorim said after the match press conference.

“We need to feel something. Right now, we need to feel something.

“If we have to fight, it’s like a family. For me, that’s a very, very good sign.

“We need to feel something and that’s important.”

Asked if the feud between Hojlund and Diallo was a sign that his players cared, Amorim said the incident proved that “it’s clear.”

“When you don’t do it, you don’t do anything,” Amorim said.

“When you care, you fight. With your brother, with your mother, with your father.

“For me, that’s a very good sign.”

Amorim also added that he prefers his players to resolve issues among themselves whenever they have a disagreement.

“I let the players and the captain calm things down,” Amorim said.

“If I see it’s too much, I’ll go into the locker room.

“But it’s their space, they have to talk, they have to fight. Again, for me it’s a very important thing.”

The victory against Viktoria Plzen also cemented Amorim as one of only three United managers to win their first two matches in a major European competition.

Only Mr Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby had already achieved this sensational feat.
