British holidaymakers gain strength as airline launches new routes from three airports to Europe | World | News

An Oslo-based airline is set to expand its UK presence with new services.

A Norwegian budget airline is launching three new direct routes for summer 2025, giving Brits even more travel options to Scandinavia and the Baltics.

It will launch flights from London Gatwick to the Norwegian city of Alesund from April 11 and the Latvian capital Riga from March 30.

Alongside these two new routes, the carrier will also introduce a new service between Newcastle and Copenhagen on May 2.

The new changes don’t stop there for Norwegian as additional routes will also be added from Helsinki Airport to Malta on June 4 and Bucharest on June 3.

Flights from Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport to Bucharest are scheduled to begin on May 1, Porto on June 4, Lyon on June 13 and Bilbao on June 14.

The airline said it plans to operate a total of 344 routes to 128 destinations across Europe during its next summer schedule, which begins at the end of March. Currently, Norwegian Airlines’ winter schedule offers 170 routes to 76 destinations.

“From the UK, we are introducing direct connections to dynamic European cities,” said Norwegian’s commercial director, Magnus Thome Maursund.

He said: “As the summer months are a busy travel time, we encourage customers to plan and book their holiday in advance to secure places. »

The new route between London Gatwick and Ålesund will operate twice a week, with flights between London Gatwick and Riga two to three times a week.

The Newcastle-Copenhagen route is expected to operate twice weekly, with all three routes operating as part of Norwegian’s summer schedule, running from late March to October.

Norwegian has been voted Europe’s Best Low-Cost Airline for six consecutive years at the Skytrax World Airline Awards.

It also won Europe’s Best Airline and National Airline with its Norwegian loyalty program, Norwegian Reward, winning the Freddie Award for having the best loyalty program in 2023.
