Cries of “oh my God” can be heard from onlookers as police arrive and try to put out the flames by hitting him with a coat.

A man is also heard repeatedly shouting “go get some water, get some water”.

Another police officer uses a smaller fire extinguisher and members of the public bring containers of water and throw them at him.

The events unfolded after police were called to a domestic incident.

Remarkably, the burning man suffered only minor injuries.

A Met the police The spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 9.25am on Friday, December 13 to reports of a domestic disturbance at an address on North Road, N7.

“Police officers attended the scene and found a man in the street who then set himself on fire.

“Officers, along with members of the public, put out the flames.

“London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also attended the scene.

“The man was taken to hospital, his condition is not life-threatening or life-changing. His next of kin are aware.

“An officer was also treated in hospital for minor burns and has since been released.

“The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.

“Due to the presence of police when the man was injured, a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
