Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was released from jail on Saturday morning (December 14), less than 24 hours after he was arrested in the Sandhya theater stampede case. The actor was detained from his residence in Hyderabad on Friday afternoon and taken to Chanchalguda Central Jail after medical check-ups. He spent the night in jail, although he was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court due to delays in paperwork.

According to a post shared by Telugu Scribe on X (formerly known as Twitter), Allu Arjun had prisoner number 7697.

The actor reportedly slept on the floor in Chanchalguda jail the entire night and did not eat anything. It is also said that as a prisoner under trial, the police kept him in a Class 1 room in the Manjira barracks.

After spending the night in the local jail, the actor was released from jail, following interim bail granted by the Telangana High Court. He had to spend Friday evening in jail despite relief from the HC as the authorities had not received a copy of the bail order until late last night.

The actor’s lawyer Ashok Reddy told reporters that the jail authorities had not released the actor despite obtaining the copy of the High Court order.

“You should ask the government and the ministry why they have not released the accused. The High Court order is very specific. Immediately, as soon as you (jail authorities) receive the order, (they should) release him. Despite the clear order, if they have not been released, they must answer. This is illegal detention. We will take legal action,” Reddy said.

According to him, Arjun was kept in jail as a “special category prisoner”.

The Pushpa 2: The Rule actor was arrested at his home on Friday afternoon in connection with the death of a 35-year-old woman in a stampede case. After his arrest, he was produced before a local court which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days. However, his lawyers moved the HC and obtained interim bail.

The victim’s eight-year-old son was hospitalized on December 4 after the stampede. Hundreds of fans jostled to get a glimpse of the actor at the premiere of blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Following the incident, the city police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team and the theater management under different sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chikkadpally police station on the basis of the complaint filed by the family of the deceased woman.
