Why we paid December salary early – Kogi government

The Kogi State Government said the payment of December salary on December 14 is aimed at enabling civil servants to plan and enjoy their Christmas and New Year holidays after working so hard throughout the year.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, has said that with this gracious endorsement from Governor Usman Ododo, public servants who would like to travel for their vacations could also plan ahead without having to wait for their salaries later in the month.

Fanwo, who spoke to reporters on Saturday, said similar measures were taken during the Sallah holiday to allow civil servants to celebrate with their loved ones.

“The Kogi State Government today paid December 2024 salaries to enable civil servants to seriously start preparing for their holidays and enable them to enjoy the Christmas period.

“Our civil servants have worked hard over the years and have supported our policies and development projects to a large extent. It is also our responsibility to make their Christmas period enjoyable by paying their salaries on time.

“The advance payment aims to ensure that civil servants meet their essential needs in time for the holiday season,” he said.

Fanwo said the governor would continue to prioritize the welfare of public servants in the state as part of his continued commitment to rewarding hard work and dedication to office.

It would be recalled that Kogi State was one of the very first states to pay the new minimum wage to its workforce.

In related news, state officials continued to praise the governor for prioritizing their well-being.

A civil servant, Mr Segun Adegboyega, told journalists that “the alert was not a surprise”, since the same thing was done during the last Sallah.

“We knew the governor would pay before Christmas, but we didn’t know it would be this early. He prioritized our well-being and we will continue to thank him for his love for public servants.

Another official, Hajara Musa, said the governor was Mr Alert. She said the officials were grateful to Alh. Yahaya Bello for giving the state a humane governor like Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo.
