Prison authorities have deployed dog teams to two prisons across the country in a bid to curb the flow of illegal narcotics and step up security measures.

The dog squads were deployed at Dhaka Central Prison in Keraniganj and Kashimpur Central Prison on December 14 as part of the ongoing prison reforms, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (Media) Jannat-ul Farhad told the BusinessStandard.

The trained dogs will be placed at the entry point of prisons to detect prisoners, visitors and staff, he said.

“The squads were deployed with the assistance of the Bangladesh Army, which will supervise all activities, including training,” he added.

Dog teams will be gradually deployed to other prisons in the country, he added.
