Extended hours for drivers to ensure packages can be delivered before Christmas

THE Irish The Government has granted a temporary extension to truck drivers’ operating hours to ensure parcels are delivered before Christmas following back-to-back delays at Strom Darragh.

This will allow drivers to drive longer with shorter breaks, but drivers will only be able to take advantage of the extended hours twice a week.

The driving limit will be extended to 11 hours per day.

This represents an increase from the 10 hours per day usually allowed.

Driving time will be capped at 60 hours per week, compared to 56 hours previously.

A Department for Transport spokesperson confirmed that the further easing of restrictions is a national decision. exemption and will not apply outside the Republic of Ireland.
