New Delhi:

As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ease of Living mission, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has announced the installation of ‘mist sprayers’ on electricity poles to combat rising air pollution and maintain a clean, green and beautiful NDMC area, according to Vice President Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Monday.

Kuljeet Singh Chahal said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, efforts have been directed towards improving urban living standards and implementing the Ease of Living mission in a structured manner. The NDMC initiative is an important step towards a pollution-free zone, the council statement noted.

In the first phase, 15 sprayers will be installed on electricity poles along a 500 meter stretch of Lodhi Road. Each pole will have five nozzles, with each nozzle having six spray holes, giving 30 spray points per pole. The system will use 81 liters of water per pole per hour of operation. To support this, four tanks with a capacity of 5,000 liters each will be installed, using treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) to conserve fresh water.

Kuljeet Singh Chahal mentioned that the project is currently in its initial phase and is expected to be implemented next year, with plans to complete the work within a fixed time frame.

He further added that after the successful implementation on Lodhi Road, the project will be extended to key locations such as Shanti Path and Africa Avenue, with wider rollout planned across the entire NDMC jurisdiction.

Highlighting other pollution control initiatives, Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the NDMC had deployed Mechanical Sweepers (MRS) equipped with GPS tracking for effective cleaning of roads. Real-time monitoring of these operations is ensured via the Smart City integrated command and control center.

The council also purchased smog guns and sprayers to reduce dust and particles. Water tankers with capacities ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 liters are used to water roadside trees and shrubs, using treated water from STPs to minimize fresh water consumption.

Additionally, NDMC organizes tree plantation drives to improve greenery and ensures regular watering of roadside green spaces. Dust control measures are strictly enforced on construction sites. All these efforts align with the honorable Prime Minister’s vision of a pollution-free India.

Kuljeet Singh Chahal affirmed that the NDMC team is dedicated to adopting innovative and effective pollution control measures while adhering to the highest standards of environmental sustainability.
