Brian Cox says Kevin Spacey shouldn’t be ‘punished endlessly’

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter posted on Monday (December 16), the 78-year-old actor reflected on Spacey’s controversies and his views on his former co-star.

“I met him recently. I think he’s been through it,” Cox said of Spacey, 65. “He got the kicking that some people think he deserved. He’s ready to get back in the saddle, and people are trying to stop him from doing that.”

“Maybe he got too out of control, but I don’t think he should be punished indefinitely for that,” Cox said. “There should be a case of forgive and forget. Let’s move on. I think he should be given the opportunity to come back to work.”

Cox was also asked about his previous comments regarding Spacey’s inappropriate behavior when they worked together on the 1994 Disney adventure film. Iron will.

“I just think that Kevin had certain things that he couldn’t or wouldn’t admit to, and I think that put a strain on him in a lot of ways,” the Scottish actor said. “And for me, that was Kevin’s only difficulty. But he’s a very good actor, and I really like Kevin. He’s very funny.”

Spacey’s career collapsed when Anthony Rapp became the first person to accuse him publicly of sexual assault, and several other accusers came forward in the years that followed.

In 2022, a New York jury estimated that Spacey was not responsible for the battery in connection with Rapp’s accusations; the following year, a British court ruled that he not guilty of nine counts of alleged sexual assaultwith additional original charges in the case also expunged.

The allegations against the actor have continued to accumulate in documentaries like that of Investigation Discovery Spacey unmaskedreleased in May.

THE House of Cards former student, who denied all allegations against him – and received criticism for coming out as gay in response to Rapp’s initial accusations in 2017 — said in a June interview on Piers Morgan uncensored that he is having difficulty paying his legal bills and that his Baltimore house was foreclosed following the criminal proceedings brought against him and other proceedings.

Amid his controversies, Spacey received support from several other actors, including Pierre Sharon And Liam Neeson.

In a conversation with THR posted in July, Stone, 66, noted that “people are mad at me” for speaking out in Spacey’s defense, adding, “I said that after going to therapy for seven years, not having been allowed to work, lost your home, lost everything, he should be allowed to return“.

“He contacted everyone he offended and told them he was sorry. Kevin grabbed people by the genitals. A lot of people,” she said. “But no one has publicly stated that he raped them or forced them to have sex.”
