Tiledmedia has unveiled the latest iteration of its Tiledmedia Player, which enables a new way to present sport, using “tiled streaming”.

Tiledmedia Player allows streaming video to be split into smaller “tiles”, to create a live action mosaic of different streams on screen.

The player’s multi-view capability is useful for sports where the live action takes place over a large territory, such as motor sports, road racing, cycling, golf and equestrian sports.

The viewer chooses which of the streaming content tiles they want to see as the main stream, while still being able to stay up to date with the action happening elsewhere.

Tiledmedia describes stream switching as “instant and frictionless with frame-accurate cross-stream sync, and audio is uninterrupted.”

Rob Koenen, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Tiledmedia, said: “We deliver what you see at the resolution you see it at, with the required bandwidth and image resolution dynamically assigned. This eliminates wasted bandwidth for the service provider, resulting in more efficient distribution and better viewer enjoyment.

Tiledmedia video player works on all devices, including all Apple and Android devices (tablets, smartphones, TV dongles, etc.), web browsers and XR headsets.

The Tiledmedia Player was launched earlier this year and has since been used by sports rights holders “including blue-chip broadcasters, streamers and sports associations, across various international markets,” says Tiledmedia.

Sports broadcasting I met Koenen last week in London, who told us: “Our clients are sports rights holders – it works well by allowing the director to show live multi-camera feeds to the viewer who can then decide which one to would like to watch. It allows the viewer to see things like live feeds from on-board cameras in motorsport, for example.

“We know how many streams the client is streaming using the player, so we can manage the bandwidth dynamically, ensuring the viewer always gets the best stream quality and resolution.”
