Anganwadi workers in Ladakh demand increase in fees

A delegation of anganwadi workers visited Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brigadier BD Mishra (retd) and sought his intervention to increase their honoraria.

Advisor to the LG, Pawan Kotwal; Commissioner/Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare, Padma Angmo; Finance Department Director Safdar Ali and representatives of Anganwadi workers were present in the meeting.

The delegates informed the LG that the UT’s share in their fees is less than that of UTs like Chandigarh. They requested the LG to increase Ladakh’s share in their fees so that they can make ends meet. They also mentioned the dedication of the anganwadi workers towards their work.

The LG praised their work and dedication. Stating that their fees have been increased in 2022, the LG assured them to look into the matter when the UT’s budgetary allocations improve.

Later, LAHDC Leh executive councilor Tashi Namgyal Yakzee called the LG to brief him about the requirements of a winter emergency budget for fodder and livestock feed.

Yakzee briefed the LG on the emergency budget requirements for procurement of fodder and animal feed, including the purchase of 700 quintals of barley due to this year’s drought conditions. He also informed the LG about the initiative taken by Hill Council of Leh for establishing handicraft centers in Durbuk and Changthang areas for promotion of local products to improve livelihood of local groups. self-help of women in rural areas of Leh district.
