Poland emerges from EU freeze thanks to impending €9.4 billion tranche of EU recovery fund

Poland is preparing to collect the second and third installments of its recovery funds, amounting to 40 billion zlotys (9.4 billion euros), before the end of December, announced the Minister of Finance and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.

The payments were delayed due to the Commission’s concerns about Poland’s rule of law and judicial independence under the previous PiS (ECR) government. However, Warsaw later agreed to follow specific steps set out by the Commission, focusing on judicial reforms to ensure independence from political influence.

“The recovery funds will (now) go to nurseries, the development of fast internet connections, the insulation of buildings, the modernization of electricity networks and the construction of wind farms, among other things,” said Pełczyńska-Nałęcz .

The ministry acknowledged that there were initially doubts whether the milestones would be completed on time, which could have led to a reduction in payments. However, the government has accelerated its actions to ensure that all requirements are met.

The funds will be invested in energy efficiency of houses and apartments, reliable and sustainable transport, digital infrastructure for education, new energy sources to improve Poland’s energy security and modernization of the electricity grid, according to the Ministry of Finance and Regional Policy.

“After good discussions, (what once seemed) impossible became possible,” a ministry source said. said Argent.pl.
