Warning of dense fog this morning, a few showers arriving later in the day

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Locally dense fog caused another DENSE FOG WARNING for this morning, slow down your morning commute when you walk in the door. We expect visibility to be reduced during morning commutes, before fog clears by late morning.

TODAY

Take your time going out this morning. The morning commute will be just as bad as yesterday, and even worse in some places. Thick fog will continue to cover the area for children at bus stops and getting to work.

It will take time to clear the fog. It is very likely that we will even see sea fog lingering for most of the day as warm air sits above the cool ocean temperatures.

Once the fog clears, expect a mix of sun and clouds today. The weak cold front will arrive this evening, increasing the chance of a few showers starting this afternoon and overnight. Temperatures will climb into the upper 60s reaching near 70 at the beaches. As you move inland, expect temperatures to reach the 70s.

Although an isolated shower is expected at times today, the best chance of rain won’t arrive until after sunset this evening. Even so, this morning’s new data is far from impressive. Consider yourself lucky if you find a shower today.

THE COLDER AIR COMES IN

The coldest temperatures will be delayed until next weekend as another cold front moves through the region on Friday. Until then, areas of fog are expected Thursday morning with a mix of sun and clouds expected Thursday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to drop, but should remain seasonal for the end of the work week with temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees.

The second cold front will bring a stronger rise to colder temperatures heading into the weekend and the latest data this morning suggests an isolated splash or two could be possible on Friday. At this point, we’ll add a 20% chance of rain into the forecast, just to be safe. The biggest problem will be the arctic air arriving over the weekend.
